School Notebook: Fifth Graders Keep Busy

Setauket fifth graders conduct a coat drive, while a Minnesauke fifth grade class wins a poster contest.

A Heartwarming Coat Drive

At , the Fifth Grade Student Council collected more than 125 coats for charity during the week of Dec. 2, many of which went to help families in the Three Village school district.

Children's jackets were given to families in the district, while toddlers' coats were donated to the Head Start Program of Port Jefferson and adults' coats were donated to the Salvation Army of Centereach.

Minnesauke Fifth Graders Win Poster Contest

Following a grade-wide library lesson on the dangers of cyberbullying and what can be done to prevent it, Mr. Frank Russo's fifth grade class at was among the winners of a school-wide poster contest to raise awareness of cyberbullying.

The class created a group poster based on the popular game "Angry Birds."

"We are trying to make people understand that they need to think before they type," said one fifth grade participant, Kristin Parks. "You don’t know how your words can affect someone."

Ward Melville Players to Present Christmas Show

Following their performance of last week, the Ward Melville Players will present "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on Dec. 22 at 6 p.m.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!

Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year? Another 60,70,80 to be laid off? My vote is NO!!!!
