School District Honors Good Samaritan

Marie DeRancy is a computer technician in Three Village's department of Instructional Technology.

A few weeks ago, Marie DeRancy was driving to the North Country Administration Center when she noticed something troubling: a woman standing outside her home, wearing her bathrobe, with her face covered in blood.

DeRancy, a computer technician who works in the school district's department of Instructional Technology, stopped to help. She called for emergency assistance and when the woman became concerned about her child at school, DeRancy also contacted the district to determine the child was in fact safe at school.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Education lauded DeRancy for her quick thinking.

"We are very appreciative of the Good Samaritan Marie was by stopping and offering assistance," said Neil Lederer, interim superintendent. "It enabled us to reassure her that her child was safe and that she received medical attention. We thank you for thinking of others."
