Schools, Library Close Early, Cancel Activities

Snow arrives earlier than originally anticipated.

As more snow blanketed Three Village on Wednesday, the school district has canceled after-school activities and announced modified dismissals for five of the eight public schools:

  • Ward Melville will dismiss at 1:35 p.m.
  • Gelinas Junior High and Murphy Junior High will dismiss at 2:10 p.m.
  • Nassakeag Elementary and Minnesauke Elementary will dismiss at 3 p.m.
  • Mount Elementary, Setauket Elementary, and Arrowhead Elementary will dismiss at normal times.

A district spokesperson said the "A Touch of Class" benefit for Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital will be rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at Gelinas. Other after-school activities and sports have been canceled.

For Tim Pandolfi, a basketball star at The Stony Brook School who is just five points away from his 1,000th career point, his milestone will have to wait at least another day: the Bears' game at Port Jefferson tonight has been rescheduled to Thursday.

Other local businesses and facilities are looking closely at weather reports.

Ted Gutmann, director of the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library, announced the library would be closing early at 6 p.m. Evening activities are canceled, and the book discussion group originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. will be held Feb. 16.

The snow arrived earlier than originally expected, according to one local weather report, which is calling for three to six inches of snow during the day and "near-blizzard" conditions overnight.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
Reality Check May 15, 2013 at 08:01 pm
Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year?
