SBU Quidditch Team Goes 1-3 at World Cup Event

Team falls to Michigan State University and Villanova before defeating Virginia Tech.

Stony Brook University's quidditch team is ranked No. 46 among 103 universities by the International Quidditch Association, after going 1-3 on the first day of the Quidditch World Cup event at Randall's Island in New York City, according to a report in The Statesman.

The team dropped matches by scores of 140-70 against Michigan State and 80-30 against Villanova before defeating Virginia Tech 130-60 on Saturday. The team also lost, 50-40, to the University of Minnesota on Sunday.

is a combination of basketball, dodgeball, rugby and soccer, and exists as a club sport at the university with many team members drawn from among the campus' Harry Potter fans. It was the second World Cup appearance for Stony Brook's team.

"We have to prove to ourselves and everyone else that we belong here," SBU captain Daniel Ahmadizadeh told The Statesman.
