Resident Advisor: Theater, Music and Hispanic Heritage on Campus

A roundup of campus and in-town events specially for Stony Brook University students.

Monday
From Monday to Wednesday this week, get the scoop on ordering a class ring by stopping at the Balfour table in the University Bookstore.

Tuesday
Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing at the University. At 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the Student Activities Center, you can take part in a discussion of the Spanish language and how it has changed in different regions of the world.

Wednesday
The school's Writers Speak series brings author Jay McInerney for a talk at 7 p.m. at Chancellor's Hall on the Southampton campus.

Thursday
The Asylum Theater Company presents Shakespeare's The Tempest, an adaptation produced by the Department of Theater Arts at the Staller Center. The show opens Thursday at 8 p.m. and runs Thursday through Sunday until October 9.

Friday
If you haven't checked it out yet, the exhibit is still open at the Wang Center. On weekdays it's open from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday
The Seawolves' women's volleyball team looks to improve on their 7-7 overall record (1-0 in the conference) in a game against Albany at 7 p.m. at the Sports Complex arena.

Sunday
The Sunday Street acoustic series at the University Cafe continues with a 2 p.m. show by The Kennedys, who will be playing a set list all by the requests of the audience. Click here for tickets.

Life Off Campus
Here's a way to give back: the , which supports breast cancer research and amenities for patients, is set for Sunday, Oct. 2 at 8:30 a.m.

Dates to Remember
Few students probably need to be reminded of this, but just in case you're living in a homework-induced bubble, there's no class this week on Thursday or Friday in celebration of Rosh Hashanah.

Opportunity Knocks
Head down to Mirabelle Tavern on Thursday night for a beer stein hoisting competition. The winner of the 7:30 p.m. contest will get $100 and a trip to Boston to visit the Sam Adams Brewery.
