Resident Advisor: Donate at a Student Blood Drive

The fall semester is in full swing. How can we tell? The student groups are starting to hold their events and the Seawolves are about to play their first home football game of the season. Plus, the academic calendar deadlines kind of give it away.

Monday, Sept. 12
Give the gift of life at a on campus between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Student Activities Center, or take part in the university's 9/11 memorial ceremony at noon at the Memorial Arch outside the Humanities building.

Tuesday, Sept. 13
Take a tour of the Frank Melville Memorial Library at 1:30 p.m., during which time you'll learn about the collections and resources at the library.

Wednesday, Sept. 14
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Stony Brook University at the kick-off event, set for 12:45 p.m. at the Student Activities Center. The event features a guest speaker and free refreshments.

Thursday, Sept. 15
Check out the men's soccer game against Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. at LaValle Stadium.

Friday, Sept. 16
Mulcahy's of Centereach is just a short drive from campus. At Mul's on Fridays, you'll find a "true blue" blue collar happy hour with drink specials from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. We're pretty sure they're not going to kick you out after happy hour's over.

Saturday, Sept. 17
Watch the Seawolves take on Brown in the at LaValle Stadium at 6 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 18
Check out Iain Matthews and Jim Fogarty at the University Cafe at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance.

Opportunity Knocks
Enter the Ayn Rand essay contest by Sept. 17 for a chance to win a scholarship. The contest is open to both undergraduates and graduate students; more than 50 prizes ranging from $50 to $10,000 will be awarded.

Dates to Remember
Monday, Sept. 12 is the last day to withdraw from classes and still get a 70 percent refund on tuition. Between Sept. 13 and Sept. 19, withdrawing will yield a 50 percent refund on tuition.
