Out-of-State Population, Tuition Increase at Stony Brook

NYSUNY 2020 legislation raises tuition for out-of-state students up to 10 percent a year.

Stony Brook University saw an increase in its number of out-of-state students of 16 percent from the fall of 2009 to the fall of 2010, according to a report by The Stony Brook Press.

The growth has been accompanied by an increase in tuition for out-of-state students – up to 10 percent per year, according to new recently signed into law by New York State lawmakers.

The percentage of out-of-state students from SUNY statewide is 5.6 percent, whereas at Stony Brook it's 6 percent. Despite the tuition increase, The Stony Brook Press reported some out-of-state students still consider the university a great bargain.
