Minnesauke Elementary School sixth-grader Sophia Castellano received an Award of Merit and third-place honors at the New York State Reflections competition.
The program, sponsored annually by the PTA, was themed “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” For her project, Sophia created a ballet dance to the Israel Kamakawiwo’ole medley of “Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World.”
The Reflections competition encourages students to unleash their artistic talents, reflect on the theme and create original works of art. Contest submissions are encouraged in five categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
