Head Custodian Lauded for Helping Unconscious Teen

School district honors Mount Elementary's head custodian, Denise Kowalski.

The Three Village Central School District on Tuesday honored Denise Kowalski, the head custodian at W.S. Mount Elementary School, for helping a teen who had fallen off a moped, hit his head and became unconscious on school grounds.

The incident occurred on Oct. 7 at 5:45 p.m., when the teen's friend frantically approached Kowalski for assistance.

According to Mount principal Nathalie Lilavois, Kowalski called 911 and directed first responders to make sure the teen received help as quickly as possible.

"Dee demonstrated sound judgment and leadership skills under pressure," Lilavois said. "She maintained a level head and provided guidance and direction to different service providers."
