Gelinas Students Earn Honors at State Science Congress

P.J. Gelinas Junior High School seventh-grade science research students Maya Pena-Lobel, Noah Mond and Elizabeth Wang achieved high honors at the New York State Science Congress, recently held at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The group earned first place in the middle school division for their research project “Attention to Retention: Factors that Affect Memory.”

During the contest, 27 of the top middle school research projects from across New York State were present. The Gelinas students qualified for the state congress by placing second in the behavioral science category at the Long Island Science Congress, held earlier this spring. The students were mentored by Gelinas science research teacher Vicki Guarascio.
