Former Blue Waves football player Miguel Maysonet, of Riverhead, was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Year, according to a statement from the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The junior running back at Stony Brook University rushed for 1,485 yards and 15 touchdowns in his second season with the Seawolves this year, both single-season school records. Maysonet notched eight 100-yard games, including a 194-yard effort against Lafayette and seven games with 140 or more yards.
Maysonet has totaled 2,613 yards in 22 games, which ranks fifth all-time in Big South history and third in school history, and also holds the all-time team record for rushing touchdowns with 27.
Maysonet scored four touchdowns in a game twice this season, the only player in conference history to do so. Having already broken the Stony Brook single-season record for yards, Maysonet is just 16 yards shy of breaking the Big South record, held by former Liberty running back and current Jacksonville Jaguars player Rashad Jennings.
