Every Child Matters to Lobby Outside Poll Sites

Volunteer group will preach importance of protecting early childhood education, after-school programs and other issues.

Every Child Matters (ECM), a non-partisan, non-profit volunteer group comprised of area children and their families, will make their message loud and clear tomorrow at election sites.

Stationed outside sites at which Three Village residents will vote on the proposed school budget as well as for four open spots on the school board, children from the Kids Care Club, as well as parents and community members, will lobby for issues that include poverty, health care, early childhood education and after-school programs.

"Long Island is often thought of as this bastion of wealth, a place where the rich and famous spend their summers,” said Shea Levin, the director of ECM of Long Island. “However, we have children going hungry on Long Island and a vast amount of homeless children on Long Island.”

From 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the group will hand out pamphlets and other material that, per a press release, “ask voters to keep kids in mind” when voting on the proposed school budget.

“We need to hold our elected officials accountable,” Levin said. “We have a moral responsibility to the children of Long Island. If we want Long Island to continue to be a great place to live and work, we need to prioritize and focus on the needs of our youngest residents.”
