Event Spotlight: Education, Discourse at ‘Jewish University for a Day’

Event is open to the public and will take place Sunday at Stony Brook University.

On Sunday, the second annual “Jewish University for a Day” program arrives at Stony Brook University.

Sponsored by the university’s Hillel Foundation for Jewish Life and the Jewish Theological Seminary, it will offer discourse and education on topics ranging from politics and theater to history and science. Among the specific discussions:

  • "The Role of Jews in American Political Life,” featuring appearances by U.S. Rep. Steve Israel and Jim Klurfeld, a journalism professor and former editorial editor at Newsday
  • “Jews, Lincoln and the Civil War”
  • “Varieties of Jewish Scientific Experience”
  • “Jews and American Theater”
Dr. Evelyn Bromet, president of Stony Brook Hillel, said the event “brings together the very best in Jewish scholarship that two great educational institutions have to offer.”

The event will offer components for high school and college students as well, with a presentation on admissions and Jewish life in college, as well as a workshop on college leadership skills.

The event costs $36 in advance or $50 at the door; the program costs $30 for seniors, $18 for high school students, and is free for Stony Brook University students. Visit www.stonybrookhillel.org/JU4ADAY to learn more.
