Diviney Chosen as School Board President

New members sworn in at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

The Three Village Central School District Board of Education elected John K. Diviney its new president by a vote of 4-3 Tuesday night.

Diviney, who is entering his tenth year as a school board member, narrowly defeated the board's other presidential nominee, Frank McIntosh. McIntosh was unanimously elected the board's vice president, a position he also held last year.

Diviney said his primary goals for the upcoming year would be to stabilize the district's leadership by finding individuals to permanently fill the positions of superintendent and assistant superintendent for human resources. He also said he would like to see less confrontation between the various components of the educational community.

"I want to try and work with the various constituencies better...to improve the district," he said. "Not just the board, but the students, the faculty, the administration, the citizens and taxpayers."

Elected to the board in 2001, Diviney is a partner at a law firm in Uniondale. He previously served as president during the 2008-2009 school year. Himself a graduate of Ward Melville High School, he has degrees from Cornell University and St. John's University School of Law.
