Childhood Memory Inspires Ward Melville Student's Winning Poem

Ward Melville High School 10th grader Grace Zhao was recently named a top 10 winner in the Creative Communications poetry contest.

Grace’s essay, “When Dreams Were Made of Ham and Cheddar,” was selected from thousands of entries from the U.S. and Canada as one of the 10 best in her grade division.

Grace’s piece focused on a childhood memory of enjoying time outside with her family and was completed as part of her independent writing class. As a top 10 winner, Grace received a commemorative certificate and monetary prize. Her piece will be included in the organization’s literary magazine.
