Board of Ed Adopts Adjusted School Calendar

Class will be in session on Election Day, Nov. 8.

Students in Three Village will have class on Nov. 8, teachers will have a professional development day on Dec. 23, and there will be three built-in snow days after the school board voted Tuesday to adopt a revised school calendar.

"Although we may need to have some increased security in our elementary schools [on Election Day] ... we feel it would be least disruptive to our parents and students," said Cheryl Pedisich, the district's assistant superintendent for educational, curriculum, instruction and pupil personnel services.

Pedisich said Tuesday that the calendar committee met Sept. 19 to decide on those changes and recommend them to the school board for adoption. The committee includes parents, teaching staff, union representatives, and members of the administration.

The original school calendar had 184 days of instruction and set the first day of classes as Sept. 1. However, Tropical Storm Irene caused the district to to Sept. 6.

With the revised calendar, the district will now have 183 days of instruction, which still includes the possibility for up to three snow days. The New York State Department of Education requires a minimum of 180 days of instruction.

"We are definitely well within compliance," Pedisich said.
