Back to School 2011: 7 Things Three Village Families Should Know

School start date has been changed to Sept. 6.

Here at Patch, we're hearing lots of buzz about the start of the new school year in Three Village, which is officially a week from Thursday. We've been bringing you back-to-school guides, including , , places to , and more. But here are a few important things that didn't fit into some of the above categories.

1. School will now start on Sept. 6, later than its original start date of Sept. 1, due to the damage caused by Hurricane Irene.

2. The Three Village Central School District has revamped its website. Same info, new presentation. Click here to check it out.

3. For elementary schools, the parent portal on the website opens Aug. 24 at staggered times throughout the day. The junior high portals opened Aug. 23, and the high school portal has already been open for several days.

4. School hours at most of the buildings have changed slightly for the coming school year:

  • Classes at Ward Melville will go from 7:05 a.m. to 1:51 p.m.
  • Classes at Gelinas and Murphy will go from 7:40 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.
  • Classes at Nassakeag and Minnesauke will run from 8:43 a.m. to 2:58 p.m.
  • Classes at Mount, Arrowhead and Setauket will remain the same, 9:25 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.

5. School lunches have gone up in price by 25 cents at all levels. Milk, however, stays the same at 60 cents.

6. The is a popular place for students' out-of-school tutoring sessions, but make sure to before you schedule time with a tutor.
