Another Level 1 Sex Offender Registers in Three Village

Level 1 offender presents a low risk to the community.

A Level 1 sex offender has registered an address within the Three Village school district for the third time in less than a year, prompting superintendent Neil Lederer to distribute another letter informing the community.

The individual has registered within the zip code 11790.

Similar letters were sent , and , when the district was notified of similar sex offender registrations in the 11733 and 11720 zip codes.

"This information is intended to inform you, not unduly alarm you," Lederer wrote in the letter. "Please use this information as an opportunity to review personal safety issues with your family."

The letter described the safety precautions the district takes to protect its students, including strict sign-in and sign-out procedures, visitor registration, bus driver education and staff awareness via a detailed description of sex offenders, and the teaching of personal safety within the curriculum.

"Please be aware that a detailed description of the convicted sex offender is automatically given to each staff member and bus driver," Lederer wrote. "The school district will continue to take responsible and appropriate measures to protect our students."

A June 23 search of the New York State database yielded two Level 2 sex offenders in the zip code 11733 and one Level 3 sex offender in the zip code 11790. Level 1 indicates a low risk sex offender, while Level 2 indicates a moderate risk and Level 3 a high risk.

Laws prohibit the distribution of the addresses of Level 1 sex offenders, but a searchable database of Level 2 and Level 3 offenders is available via the New York State Public Registry of Sex Offenders.

Copies of the district's letter are available via the district's website as well as at the North Country Administration Center at 100 Suffolk Avenue in Stony Brook.

I agree..maybe that is one of the reasons road pavement safety lines and striping esp. in the 3VRead More area are virtually non existent!! VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION that leaves the TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN liable involving accidents and fatalities. I think the new T.O.B. highway super, (D. L.) should make this a priority!

So, essentially that first residential home is being written off as the price of doing business.Read More There goes that property value. Other than as a professional residence, who would want to live by a driveway for that traffic? As for the entrance Village Automotive, that will bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection nearby. 25A is impassable/impossible in that area for large chunks of the day now.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.

I the BOE and Union didn't allow the majority of the budget be spent on benefits and salaries maybeRead More there would be money left for supplies. With declining enrollment and cuts to programs for our kids they only ones making out are teachers and staff with too generous salaries and benefits. Vote no on Tuesday!

Seriously? We are asked to send in enough supplies per kid each year to supply 5 kids. Where does itRead More all go? It gets lost, thrown out, or ends up back in the students home via backpack. The problem is not the lack of supplies, but a lack of personal responsibility. But if we send in enough supplies each year for ten or fifteen students, then we might be able to avoid the underlying problem.
