3 Local Schools Designated 'Reward Schools' by State

State education department releases list of schools identified as being top performers.

As the Three Village Central School District prepares to go back to school, three of its schools have been designated as "reward schools" by the New York State Department of Education.

Nassakeag Elementary, Minnesauke Elementary and Gelinas Junior High School have landed on the reward schools list.

Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich said the selection process is complex and will be explained at an upcoming Board of Education meeting in September.

"Every year, I grow increasingly proud of the work accomplished in each of our eight school buildings, and I am honored that three of our schools were given this designation," she said.

"Reward school" status is awarded to schools that are identified “among those schools that have the highest achievement in the state or are making the most progress and do not have significant gaps in student achievement that are not being closed,” according to the state's Department of Education.
