Evening Tech Talk - Tuesday: More iDevice Rumors

Fingerprint authentication and near field communication may be coming to your next iDevice!

The latest news, er... rumors to hit the media have been focused around the next release of the iphone. If Apple follows past examples it will be called the iPhone 5S, but there's a good chance the similarities to other Apple devices may stop there.

It's due time for Apple to WOW us again. The upgrade from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 was mostly physical and don't get me started on the multiple releases of the iPad over the last year!!! We want big power and crazy cool features... What's the deal Apple? What are you up to next? Here are just a few ideas circulating:

Back in the end of July 2012, Apple purchased a company called Authentec. Terms of the deal included provisions for the company’s patents, control of its fingerprint sensors, touchchips and security technologies. Sounds like Apple wanted to get in on fingerprint ID technology and when your Apple you just buy a company that's already in the market. So, now that Apple has had some time with their latest acquisition, it may just be time to show us what they have in mind. I believe, and it is well rumored on the Internet, that Apple is getting ready to release fingerprint authentication on their devices. This would put a big blunder in thieves plans to steal your tech!

The other big thing that we consistently hear is coming to future iDevices, is Near Field Communication, or NFC for short. If you remember, one of our very first articles was dedicated to this exact technology. Click here to read that article and freshen up on your NFC knowledge. What this means for iFans is more functionality, likely using Apple's Passbook application. Welcome to the e-Wallet, Apple style!
