Utility Workers Give Up Their Rooms at Local Hotel

Holiday Inn Express at Stony Brook was booked to capacity, creating a dilemma.

Utility workers from the south slept in sleeping bags on the floor of a hotel ballroom to avoid displacing families who were in need of housing, according to a report published Sunday in Newsday.

Employees of ServPro from out-of-state also gave up their rooms at the Holiday Inn Express at Stony Brook to artists and student athletes who were set to perform a show at Stony Brook's Staller Center and play basketball games at the Sports Complex.

"In comparison to what everyone else is dealing with, it's pretty minor," Chris Teters of the ServPro company told Newsday.
