Utility Work on Christian Avenue Nearing Completion

Problematic road will soon see reconstruction.

The Suffolk County Water Authority has finished its work on Christian Avenue and National Grid will likely be finished next week, paving the way for the Town of Brookhaven to start work reconstructing the road.

Spokesman Tim Motz of the SCWA said on Thursday there is still a project on Highview Road in the vicinity of Christian Avenue that may take a couple of days to finish, but said the work on Christian Avenue itself has been completed.

Spokesman Wendy Ladd of National Grid said Thursday that the utility company "should be finishing up our end of it next week," adding that the scope of the original project had been expanded from 1,500 feet of gas main to 2,400 feet of gas main.

"We have a couple of tie-ins left to do, which will take us into next week," Ladd said, adding that the utility will still be doing work in the neighborhood on Harbor View Road and Sand Street.

In an interview Monday, Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro said the town is waiting on official notification that the work of National Grid and SCWA is complete.

"Regardless of what that time frame is, it is certainly my intention, obviously, that this work will be completed this paving season," Losquadro said. "People have been living with this road in this condition for a long time. I ask for their patience for a little bit longer so we can get this done properly and we don’t have additional problems in the future."
