At least we know one thing about those yellow signs that appeared on Christian Avenue on Monday: They were definitely not put there by the Town of Brookhaven.
"The signs were not legally placed in the right of way," acting highway supervisor John Cappella said in a statement to Patch.
By the early afternoon on Tuesday, the signs were gone, though the mystery remains: Who put them up?
The "Why?" also remains, though Patch readers and residents of Christian Avenue who brought the issue to our attention seemed to think it was due to the poor conditions of the road, which is marred in may places by pothoes and ruts.
Two sets of signs, which read "Welcome to Christian Avenue" and "Enter at Your Own Risk," appeared Monday at the corner of Christian Avenue and Hollow Road and at the corner of Christian Avenue and Bailey Hollow Road.
