Town to Hold Hearings on Redistricting

Council district lines will be redrawn this year.

Council district lines will be redrawn this year in the Town of Brookhaven, and to solicit feedback from residents, advocates, community groups, and other organizations, a public hearing will be held in each council district beginning next week.

For council district 1, the hearing is set for Monday, set for 4 p.m. at the Port Jefferson Village Center on East Broadway. Those interested in giving a presentation must sign up on a first-come-first-serve basis.

According to the U.S. Census, the town is required to re-examine its council district boundaries every ten years.

"This is the first time the Town will use a bipartisan commission to redraw its lines, which will take the politics out of the process and ensure that the redistricting will provide for an equal weight in vote for each Council District," the town said in a statement.

The eight-member Redistricting Commission is comprised of three registered Democrats, three registered Republicans, and two registered voters who belong to neither party. The committee is required to make recommendations by Sept. 15 and the town is required to act on them by Dec. 15.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
