Town Councilman Gives Storm Recovery Update

Many are still without power; a handful of traffic lights are still out.

Many people are still without power in the Town of Brookhaven's First Council District, represented by Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld. On Monday, Fiore-Rosenfeld delivered an update on the condition of the district:

Power: There are still about 41,000 residents in the Town of Brookhaven without power. Fiore-Rosenfeld gave the following update: "Homes that are in low lying areas where there were floods need to be inspected before power can be restored. Our Building Inspectors are working diligently to gain access and inspect each and every home. Some homes may also require an Electrical Inspection as well before LIPA will re-power these residences. Please continue to call in your outages to our call center at 631-451-TOWN."

Traffic Safety: Six traffic signals are inoperational in Stony Brook and one in Setauket as of Monday afternoon. Other signals are working on generator power, though there aren't enough generators to power them all. During the height of the storm there were 137 traffic signals not working. "Some are waiting on LIPA re-powering, while others were damaged or completely destroyed," Fiore-Rosenfeld said. He reminded people that

Gas Update: The town has been assured there will be deliveries within the First Council District area within the week. In the meantime, "please try to conserve where you can and consider car pooling with friends and neighbors to help each other through this crisis," the councilman said.

Yard Waste Management: The town has planned special yard waste pickup for residential neighborhoods each day through Friday, Nov. 9. Yard waste must be bundled and placed at the curb.

Emergency Meals & Shelters: The Red Cross is operating two shelters: Sachem East High School in Farmingville and the John J. Foley facility in Yaphank (special needs shelter). The Setauket Fire Department's Station 3 is an emergency meal distribution location while supplies last.

Warming Centers & Charging Stations: Located at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center on Route 25A in Mt. Sinai and the New Village Recreation Center in Centereach on Wireless Road, the hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. New Village is also a charging station for electronic devices, as is Town Hall in Farmingville.

Showers & Internet: People can go to World Gym Setauket between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and after 8 p.m. for hot showers. Non-members welcome. Internet is also available at this location.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.

Can you tell us where this property is? An address or street name?

Seriously? We are asked to send in enough supplies per kid each year to supply 5 kids. Where does itRead More all go? It gets lost, thrown out, or ends up back in the students home via backpack. The problem is not the lack of supplies, but a lack of personal responsibility. But if we send in enough supplies each year for ten or fifteen students, then we might be able to avoid the underlying problem.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
Reality Check May 15, 2013 at 08:01 pm
Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year? Another 60,70,80 to be laid off? My vote is NO!!!!
