Following many public schools in the area, Stony Brook University cancelled Monday classes ahead of Hurricane Sandy.
In a message to students and staff, the state university's office of emergency management said all classes will be closed at its Stony Brook, Manhattan and Southampton campuses.
The medical center will remain open, and the university has asked that medical students "with clinical obligations should make every effort to attend clinical rotations and contact their clinical coordinators with any questions or concerns."
Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall along Southern New Jersey on Monday, but the enormous storm, dubbed "Frankenstorm" by meteorologists, threatens much of the East Coast.
