South Setauket Nicolls Road Intersections to See Changes

Residents are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at Suffolk Community College.

Three intersections on Nicolls Road in South Setauket are slated for updates, and residents will have the chance to learn more about the project, comment and ask questions at an informational meeting coming up on Monday in Selden.

Intersections at Mark Tree Road, Hawkins and Wireless Roads, and Hammond Road will see various changes, including widening, extension or addition of turning lanes; timing of traffic lights and upgraded signals; crosswalks and pedestrian ramps; and more.

According to Suffolk Legis. Kara Hahn, D-Setauket, in whose legislative district the intersections fall, the changes make up the fifth of a six-phase improvement project along one of the county's most important roads.

"Nicolls Road is such a vital artery," Hahn said. "People from all over the district and from other districts utilize it for sure. I think it's important that the people who use that road every day have the opportunity to comment."

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Babylon Student Center on the Suffolk County Community College campus in Selden. For more information on the project, visit http://www.cr97.org/.

I agree..maybe that is one of the reasons road pavement safety lines and striping esp. in the 3VRead More area are virtually non existent!! VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION that leaves the TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN liable involving accidents and fatalities. I think the new T.O.B. highway super, (D. L.) should make this a priority!

So, essentially that first residential home is being written off as the price of doing business.Read More There goes that property value. Other than as a professional residence, who would want to live by a driveway for that traffic? As for the entrance Village Automotive, that will bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection nearby. 25A is impassable/impossible in that area for large chunks of the day now.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.
