SBU Students to Get Free Rides – on Suffolk Buses

Newsday: University will reimburse county for student fares, county will increase Saturday bus service.

Stony Brook University will reimburse bus fares so that students can ride Suffolk County Transit’s S60/S69 and 3D routes for free on Saturdays, Newsday reported Thursday.

The county and the university partnered up to increase Saturday service to encourage students to stay local for entertainment and shopping in places like Port Jefferson Village and Smith Haven Mall, according to the report.

"This will make it easier for students to support local businesses and take cars off the road," Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone said.
