SBU Students to Get Free Rides – on Suffolk Buses

Newsday: University will reimburse county for student fares, county will increase Saturday bus service.

Stony Brook University will reimburse bus fares so that students can ride Suffolk County Transit’s S60/S69 and 3D routes for free on Saturdays, Newsday reported Thursday.

The county and the university partnered up to increase Saturday service to encourage students to stay local for entertainment and shopping in places like Port Jefferson Village and Smith Haven Mall, according to the report.

"This will make it easier for students to support local businesses and take cars off the road," Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone said.

Then again if it was not for Stony Brook University, Suffolk County would have the economy of the suburbs of Pine Bluffs, Arkansas. The only reason why any money comes into Suffolk County is Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory. Otherwise all of the money that may be here is exported to other corporate centers of the U.S. through their chain stores. While Nassau has corporations, Suffolk County has none. If it wasn't for this particular bus route there would be no bus service after 6pm, and there probably would not be any bus service in Suffolk at all. Right now it barely exists.
