Old Town Road to Get Facelift

Brookhaven begins resurfacing project on the road between Port Jefferson Station to East Setauket.

The Town of Brookhaven on Wednesday launched a project to give Old Town Road a facelift in response to numerous complaints and recurring pothole problems on the road.

The resurfacing will take place beginning at Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station and extending north one mile into East Setauket. Parts of Old Town Road near Sheep Pasture Road will also be redone.

The project is expected to be completed by August 13, according to Lori Balbassare, Deputy Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Brookhaven.

Balbassare said this past winter took a heavy toll on Old Town Road.

"Paving is never easy but in the end, I think people will be very happy," she said. "It's been a road that we've had many complaints on over the past few months."

Balbassare said the road will not be entirely closed off, although sections of the road will be closed for periods of time with traffic diverted to allow road crews to work. Allow extra travel time for delays.

The project's cost is expected to be around $1.5 million.
