Nicolls Road Improvements on the Horizon

County sets aside $4.1 million for the project.

Nicolls Rd. is one of three heavily trafficked north-south county roads that will be revamped as part of a $12 million project, the county announced on Tuesday.

Of that amount, $4.1 million is earmarked for Nicolls Rd., with the rest of the funding going toward improvements on Wicks Rd. and Fifth Ave. in the Town of Islip. According to the county, resurfacing the road and rehabilitating or installing drainage systems will be the focus of the project.

"This project will be a big boost for travelers along Nicolls Road, a vital corridor and passageway to many major commercial and industrial centers in Suffolk," County Executive Steve Levy said in a statement.
