New Poquott Building Inspector is Familiar Face in Town

Joe Arico will split time between the area's two incorporated villages.

Poquott building inspector Sal Alessi has announced his retirement, and the village has tapped Joe Arico as its new expert on building codes and contractor requirements.

Arico, who also serves as building inspector for the Village of Old Field, was appointed at Poquott's Dec. 16 board meeting and started his new post last week. He was slated to shadow Alessi for one to two weeks before jumping into what Poquott mayor Barbara Donovan described as "a lot of open permits" in the village.

Arico will split his time between Poquott and Old Field, where he earns a monthly retainer of $1,200, according to Old Field mayor Michael Levine.

"He is great with the residents," Levine said. "He is responsive to their needs, and he makes sure that the work done by the residents’ contractors is in compliance with the applicable building codes and the village’s code."
