Letter to the Editor: Flanagan Wants to Hear From You

Flanagan to hold three town hall meetings for residents to share ideas in person.

Dear Editor,

I would like to wish you and your readers a very Happy and Healthy New Year. The past twelve months have been some of the most productive in recent memory for New York State and I look forward to building on those accomplishments in 2012. From cutting the income tax rate for every resident to ending to the job-killing MTA Payroll Tax for almost 80 percent of the businesses that currently pay it, this year was a success by any measure.

That said, we know that much more remains to be done in the coming year and I welcome the input of all of your readers to help in making New York State the best it can be. As always, I invite your readers to contact me by either emailing me at flanagan@nysenate.gov or calling my office at 631-361-2154 if they have any thoughts or comments on our state or if my office can provide them with any assistance.

To make it easier for your readers to share their ideas in person, I have organized three Town Hall meetings beginning at the end of January at locations throughout the district and welcome all residents to join me at these important discussions. Those who are interested should visit my web site a flanagan.nysenate.gov for more information and directions.

The next twelve months promise to be a great opportunity to build on the successes of 2011 and I look forward to working with our community to make things better on Long Island and improve our quality of life.

But before we start that process, I simply want to wish to you and all of your readers a very happy and healthy New Year and all the best in 2012.

                                                John Flanagan
New York State Senator, 2nd District

Dear Senator: Can't wait to see what is discussed at the Jan 10th Education Committeee meeting-10 am right-live feed online. Triborough Ammendment- it's repeal would ensure all taxpayers have an equal start in contract negotiations. It hasn't been brought up by your committee in 2 years-so when is the time going to be right? After your wife retires or is laid off from the Elwood school district as a sign language interpreter? They are part of the TRS pension plan right?

Ah, where to start.. To keep things short and to the point I would like to stop everyone in NYS from treating Suffolk County like their own personal ATM machine. Concessions need to be made and those who don't contribute need to step up or move to California.

A master plan, involving community input, will help determine the best reuse of the Nissequogue River State Park's buildings and grounds. It’s time to move forward with the Master Plan to help facilitate the cleanup and enhancement of the NRSP!
