Greenway Trail Expansion Expected to Start Soon

Construction will start this spring and add 2 miles to the trail, according to a report published in The Village Times Herald.

A two-mile expansion of the Greenway Trail in Setauket and Port Jefferson Station is set to kick off this spring, according to a report in The Village Times Herald.

The current 1.5-mile trail will be expanded one mile to the east and one mile to the west, so that it will connect Limroy Lane near the East Setauket Post Office on Route 25A all the way to the parking lot on Route 112 near Chereb Lane in Port Jefferson Station.

Kiosks at the both ends are planned for the trail, as well as possible bike racks, according to the report.

Charles McAteer, chairman of Friends of the Greenway, said in an email to The Village Times Herald: "The town lines should not be a barrier to people using this community gem. As we meet persons from other communities we see how connected we truly are and share many of the same goals for improving life on Long Island for our families."

Clearing the way for the project was the completion of the surface excavation at the Lawrence Aviation Superfund site in Port Jefferson Station.

A warning to all who want to walk that beautiful track, PJS is home to many vagrantes who will take advantage of the situation.this was not the area for it; it's very scarey here; and the wild life has gone., Now the true wild life, the murdering kind will wander the path,,,,,,stay off the path unless in a group with a walkig stick! Local police patrol, were astounded at this; and said this not a good situation...walk wisley and in groups.,bad move whoever though of this.......blood on their hands!

Justme.. Even if everyone voted no the raises were locked. By voting no programs would have beenRead More decimated more and more teachers given pink slips. The problem here is the BOE giving the union these contracts. It's time to STOP THE MADNESS!!
JJ Smith June 18, 2013 at 07:04 pm
And the candidate for the BOE ran unopposed. We have no to blame but ourselves.

Yes TC change is difficult but it has to start somewhere. What motivation does the BOE have toRead More change when we keep passing the budgets? Budgets have to fail, programs have to be cut before there will be any union negotiations. Many have to lose their jobs before they will allow their pay to be cut. Sounds harsh but it's reality. Our children will survive cuts, be educated and successful - even with less programs.
