UPDATE: GOP Candidate Walk Cancelled

Senate candidate Wendy Long, Assembly Candidate Deborah McKee and Legis. Ed Romaine, seeking the GOP nomination for Brookhaven supervisor, were scheduled to walk through Port Jefferson on Thursday.

Original story: Though a of downstate GOP insiders showed a lack of confidence in Republican Senate candidate Wendy Long, local voters will get the chance to judge for themselves, in person, as she and a couple of other Republican hopefuls visit Port Jefferson on Thursday.

Long, along with and - one of several taking aim at the GOP nod for Brookhaven supervisor - will tour Port Jefferson starting at 2 p.m. The group will start their meet and greet walking tour at , continuing to make their way around the village to see what on the minds of locals.

A survey conducted by Patch of GOP insiders in the lower portion New York State - consisting of party leaders, elected officials, nominated politicians, activists and others. Among nearly 100 polled, 31 responded to the survey, and over three-quarters of those who responded said Long would likely lose to Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand in November.

In the Assembly race, McKee is stepping back up to the plate after , D-Setauket, in 2010. While Englebright seeks his 11th consecutive term, the Republican McKee says though she lost in 2010, the state of affairs is even worse today than it was then, and hopes to make a positive change.

Romaine is one of a few Republicans hoping to in Brookhaven Town Hall. The Suffolk County Legislator from Center Moriches has served in his current capacity since 2006 after serving as County Clerk for 16 years.

Yeah let's see them walk through upper Port! All local candidates should do that to see how this area is going to hell.

Awwww....How disappointing....I had a bunch o' things to tell these folks.... Earl, not to worry, PJ Code will escort them thru Upper Port (should they happen to reschedule)...Oh wait, code doesn't come uptown either....Oh well, guess we won't be having any walk-thru's...:(

That whole local govt in Port is a complete joke, what a bunch of useless positions. Good thing they recently all gave themselves a raise too!
