County Park Named in Honor of Nora Bredes

Forsythe Meadow County Park will be called The Nora Bredes Preserve.

Dozens of people turned out for a ceremony on Saturday to dedicate the Forsythe Meadow County Park in Stony Brook in memory of the late legislator and activist Nora Bredes, Newsday reported this past weekend.

The Nora Bredes Preserve honors Bredes, after fighting breast cancer. Bredes was a county legislator in the fifth legislative district, as well as the environmental activist who helped shut down the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant.

During the ceremony, Suffolk County Legis. Kara Hahn, D-Setauket, former county legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher, and Southampton town councilwoman Bridget Fleming spoke about how Bredes inspired them to pursue careers in local politics.
