Brookhaven Zoning Board Delays Decision on Cell Tower

Outside of T-Mobile communications tower, it's business as usual for zoning board.

The Town of Brookhaven Zoning Board on July 21 delayed making a decision on T-Mobile Northeast's request for a special permit to erect a a 60 ft. communications tower on the north side of Nesconset Highway west of Stony Brook Road in Stony Brook.

The application also requested permission for the proposed tower to be set back less than the required 150 percent of the height of tower; 83 percent is proposed.

In a separate issue, the zoning board also continued to get requests from homeowners and business owners to improve their properties. Variances and permits are the most popular items requested among the numerous applications the board receives.

At last Wednesday night's meeting, Joseph and Denise Saggio of 243 Christian Avenue in Stony Brook requested a front yard setback variance for an existing roofed-over porch which exceeds the 4x8 permitted size, as it is actually 6x10. The porch is located on the west side of Christian Avenue south of Sand Street.

Kimberly Lopez of 299 Old Town Road in East Setauket requested a rear yard variance for a proposed one-story residence addition. The addition is proposed for the the east side of Old Town Road south of Lynx Lane.

Laura Long of 12 Madeley Lane in Stony Brook requested rear yard and side yard variances for a proposed inground swimming pool with a deck. The variances are needed for the west side of Madeley Lane, north of Malverne Lane.

Arbor Hills Homes Inc. requested an interpretation of Section 85-1 of the Town Code as to whether a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is approved as defined under "Home Occupation" for the property located on the southwest corner Krispin Place and Mark Tree Road in East Setauket. Sal Malguarnera appeared on behalf of Arbor Hills.

The Board granted Carol Grimm's application as presented at the July 14 meeting. She requested a minimum side yard variance for a proposed two-story residence addition and a front yard setback variance for existing wood landings and steps exceeding the 4x8 permitted (13x8 is proposed). The addition is proposed on the southwest corner of Atlas Street and Fireside Lane for the property located at 8 Atlas Street in Setauket.
