Brookhaven Officials Lift Evacuation Order, Extend State of Emergency

Acting supervisor Kathy Walsh asks residents to stay off the road.

The Town of Brookhaven on Friday lifted the mandatory evacuation order it had issued for Sunday, and extended the state of emergency it declared on Saturday.

Acting supervisor Kathy Walsh also asked residents in flood-prone areas and other communities that have sustained major damage to remain cautious and stay off the roads.

"There are still many down power lines, trees and other extremely hazardous debris, and some homes that have sustained significant damage may be dangerous to enter," Walsh said. "We want everyone to stay safe, remain off the roads and allow emergency workers to get the clean up and power restoration job done as soon as possible."
