Beat the Heat: Town Beaches, Pools Open Longer Hours

Brookhaven officials open town beaches, pools and cooling centers for heat relief.

Escape this week's heat wave by jumping into one of Brookhaven's town pool or beaches. There's more time than ever.

Brookhaven officials have announced the town's pools and beaches will be open extended hours through July 19 to allow residents a chance to cool off, in response to the National Weather Center's Heat Advisory.

West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook and Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Centereach pools, located off Nichols Road and Hawkins Road, will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For those who prefer to stay indoors, the town has opened four cooling centers Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The nearest ones are at: New Village Recreation Center, 20 Wireless Road, Centereach and Rose Caracappa Senior Center, 739 Route 25A, Mount Sinai.
