2 Old Field Trustees Re-Elected; Village Passes $1.12M Budget

Old Field mayor says the village is in good shape.

Old Field village trustees Stephen Shybunko and Jeff Owen were re-elected to their posts after running unopposed, the village recently announced.

Mayor Michael Levine called the two trustees "incredibly dedicated."

"Steve is constantly on top of budgetary issues, and Jeff has done a tremendous job maintaining and improving the esthetics of the village," Levine said in an email to Patch. "They are a pleasure to have on the board, they are the reason why the village gets things done for its residents, and they are dedicated servants."

On top of re-electing two trustees, the village also unanimously adopted a budget of approximately $1.12 million that doesn't increase taxes on the residents. The village recently completed a road repaving project, which it accomplished through a bond, and absorbed the cost of plowing the roads after the Town of Brookhaven ceased to plow village roads in 2012.

"We’ve got a board that working very well together, working with the community, trying to standardize thing so new residents can understand new construction, improving the quality of life," said Shybunko, who is in his fifth year serving on the village board.

Levine said the village is doing well overall.

"The budget was recently passed with no tax increase to the residents, we have new roads that that are safe and well maintained, and we handled the Blizzard of 2013 better than any other village or town that I am aware of," he said.
