Ward Melville Student Assaulted in Boys' Bathroom

The incident is not considered an act of bullying, superintendent says.

A 16-year-old boy was assaulted by another student in a boys' bathroom at Ward Melville High School on the afternoon of Dec. 2, according to police.

Reports state the alleged assailant approached the teen, cursed at him, and pushed him from behind into a wall, resulting in a facial injury.

Interim superintendent Neil Lederer said in a statement to Patch that the district is investigating the incident and "disciplinary action will be taken as needed subject to a superintendent's hearing."

The district is not considering this an act of bullying, Lederer said.
