UPDATE: Police Seeking Middle Aged White Man in Bank Robbery

Chase bank robbed around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, prompting brief lockdown of local schools.

Police are seeking a middle aged white male who they say robbed a on Route 347 in East Setauket on Monday afternoon.

Police described the man who they say performed the robbery, which occurred at around 2:15 p.m., as roughly 5-foot-8, in his early 40s, with "salt and pepper hair" and a buzz haircut. Police said he was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.

"He didn’t display a weapon," said Det. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky, with the Suffolk County Police. "He had a note that said he had a weapon and demanded cash.”

The robbery prompted roughly an hour-long lockdown of Ward Melville High School and Arrowhead Elementary. Ward Melville dismisses at 1:51 p.m., so only students involved with extracurricular activities were affected. Arrowhead does not release until 3:40 p.m., so dismissal time proceeded as usual, according to school officials.

Police said there was just one customer in the bank at the time of the robbery, and the suspect fled eastward toward Kohl's after he left.

Employees at Cards and Gifts, next door to the bank, said they did not see or hear anything unusual. Employees at Setauket Pastaria, the bank's other next door neighbor, said police requested surveillance footage from the camera mounted under the restaurant's awning.
