A commuter student was mugged on a campus parking lot on Tuesday, Stony Brook University police said in an alert to students and faculty members.
"As part of our continuing effort to keep the campus community informed about matters of safety, we are notifying you that the University Police Department is currently investigating a report of a robbery in the vicinity of the Schomburg parking area," the police said.
Police said the victim was approached by a man dressed in a black, hooded sweatshirt, wearing a black hat and a black scarf covering his face. The man brandished an "unknown object," police said, and victim dropped her bag.
The man then fled the scene.
