Town Employee Discovers Vandalism at Raynor Park

Several areas of the park were found marked by spray paint.

An unknown graffiti artist or artists spray painted bathrooms, storage buildings, signs, landscape stones, goal posts, and garbage pails at Percy Raynor Park in South Setauket on April 9, according to a police report.

Sixth precinct officers responded to a call from a town employee who found the facilities marked with graffiti. An initial report said swastikas had been spray painted at the park and suggested a possible hate crime, but a police spokesman later said it was unfounded.

Brookhaven town spokesman Jack Krieger said cleanup started on Thursday and was expected to be finished Friday. The cost of damages has not yet been determined. Krieger said there was a minor incident of vandalism at a park concession stand about a month ago.
