A New York State judge has mandated that a local head shop immediately stop selling illegal designer drugs that are allegedly mislabeled as well as pay thousands of dollars in fines for selling them, according to a report published Wednesday in Newsday.
Newsday has that Pavilion, which recently relocated to Setauket from its location in Stony Brook, was one of three head shops on Long Island cited by the state attorney general for selling the drugs.
The judge imposed $22,000 in fines, according to the report.
The court ruling officially banned the sale of synthetic or designer drugs.
Attorney general Eric Schneiderman said in a statement announcing the ban that the widespread sale of synthetic drugs has become a crisis in Suffolk, New York State and the rest of the country. "The judge's order proves that, by taking a creative approach in using the state's existing labeling laws, we can get swift results to remove dangerous synthetic drugs off store shelves and hold sellers accountable for breaking the law," he said.
