Police Still Searching for Hit-and-Run Driver Who Killed Centereach Man

The accident occurred in December of 2012.

In hopes of finding the driver who killed a pedestrian in December in Centereach, Suffolk police on Wednesday again called on the public for help.

Michael Van Hulse, 29, of Centereach, was walking east on Park Street, west of Rustic Road, when he was struck by a vehicle at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 21. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the make and model of the vehicle is still unknown, but that "it was painted a metallic red and may have sustained damage to the windshield and the black plastic panels on the underside of the vehicle."

Wednesday marked the second time that Crime Stoppers issued a call for information. A reward of up to $5,000 leading to an arrest is being offered; calls are kept anonymous. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-220-TIPS.
