UPDATE: 7:36 p.m. – Police confirmed that Capital One bank on Route 25A in East Setauket was robbed Tuesday at 3:44 p.m.
According to police, the robber handed the bank teller a note demanding cash and indicating he had a weapon. The teller complied, and the man fled on foot eastbound on Route 25A through rear businesses.
The suspect is described as a white man wearing a turtleneck pulled up over his mouth, a black windbreaker with a hood over his head, dark sunglasses, black gloves, khaki pants, and a white cap with three dark squares on the left side. He is described as in his mid 20s and between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10 with a medium build.
Suffolk police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS; calls are kept confidential.
ORIGINAL REPORT: 5:39 p.m. – Police were called to the East Setauket Capital One bank branch Tuesday afternoon after someone reported a robbery at the branch, police said.
However Suffolk County Police would not confirm if the bank, located at 61 Route 25A, was indeed robbed.
If it was, it would be the second bank robbery in Setauket in a week.
On Feb. 15, the Chase Bank branch in Setauket was robbed by a man who showed a teller a note demanding cash and claimed he had a weapon.
