East Setauket Man Charged in Church Burglary

Newsday reports the pastor interrupted the burglary and subdued the alleged thief.

An East Setauket man has been charged following an alleged burglary at a Center Moriches church in which the pastor interrupted the incident, according to a report published Friday in Newsday.

Police said Brian Cook, 43, broke into Lamb's Chapel early Thursday morning and was ransacking the church when pastor Michael Jankowski walked in.

According to Newsday, Jankowski prayed for the alleged burglar as he attempted to subdue him.

"I said there was a different way to live. He didn't have to live this way – that there was hope for him," Jankowski told Newsday.

Cook was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony. He was arraigned Friday and bail was set at $5,000.
