Crimes Nearby: Man Pleads Not Guilty to Canal Road Hit-and-Run

Port Jefferson

• According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, a man who pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in relation to the hit-and-run crash that led to the death of a Coram woman hid his vehicle in his parents' backyard, reportedly telling them the blood on the car and broken windshield came from an incident at a Patchogue nightclub.

• Suffolk County police are asking for the public's help while investigating a burglary that took place a few weeks ago at Highway Barbershop in Terryville on Route 347.

According to police, a man broke three windows at the barbershop between 6:30 p.m. on July 8 and 7:45 a.m. on July 9. Authorities said he took off with an undisclosed amount of cash from the business, located at 4577 Nesconset Highway.

Smithtown

Michael Urbancik, 26, of Smithtown was arrested July 24 on charges of second-degree strangulation, a felony, and criminal obstruction of breathing on Coe Court. Urbancik grabbed another person by the throat and held his hand over their nose until the person lost consciousness.
