Cops Seek Anonymous Tree Cutter

A Stony Brook resident reported that a stranger cut down 14 trees while the resident was on vacation.

Suffolk County Police are investigating an incident of criminal mischief in which more than a dozen trees were destroyed on private property.

A resident of Houghton Boulevard in Stony Brook reported March 20 that someone cut down 14 trees at the rear edge of his property and left the remains of the trees in the yard, according to a police report.

The incident took place sometime between March 15 and march 18, while the resident was on vacation, police said.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, which is being investigated as fourth-degree criminal mischief.
