Cops: S. Setauket Man Drove 120 Miles Per Hour, Arrested for DWI

A South Setauket man was arrested on Thursday in Centereach and charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction in 10 years after he was observed driving at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour, according to police.

Joseph Perez, 26, was arrested in Centereach at the intersection of Pond Path and Route 347 at 1:47 a.m. In addition to the DWI charge, he was charged with four moving violations including speeding at 120 miles per hour.

According to reports, Officer Robert Mudzinski of Suffolk County's Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team observed Perez driving southbound on Nicolls Road allegedly in excess of 100 miles per hour. Perez was observed turning onto westbound Route 347 and then making a U-turn before turning back onto southbound Nicolls Road. Mudzinski was able to catch up with Perez when he stopped at the traffic light at the corner of Nicolls Road and Pond Path.

Perez, whose vehicle was seized, is schedule to be arraigned Thursday afternoon at First District Court in Central Islip.
